Take all the guesswork out of cooking rice by using your Instant Pot or electric pressure cooker. This Instant Pot Basmati Rice is ready in minutes and is perfectly fluffy every time!
Rinse the Basmati (or other long grain) rice in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear.
Add the rinsed rice to your Instant Pot with the water, salt, cinnamon stick, and optional cardamom pods and star anise.
Close and seal the lid.
Cook on high pressure for 6 minutes.
Once cooking time is complete, allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes, then release any remaining pressure and remove the lid.
Remove the cinnamon stick and optional cardamom pods and star anise and gently stir the rice with a rubber scraper by running it around the edge of the pot and folding the rice on itself. This allows any excess water to evaporate and gives you perfectly fluffy rice that holds its shape and doesn't clump.
Notes
Rinsing your rice is an important step that you don't want to skip. This helps make sure the rice doesn't clump or stick together.Serving: Serve your Basmati rice alongside your favorite protein. You can also easily turn your cooked rice into pilaf by stirring in peas. The optional addition of cardamom and star anise are traditional flavors in Indian cuisine.Storing and Freezing: Cooked rice can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Basmati and other long grain white rice can be frozen by spreading on a parchment-lined sheet pan and freezing in a single layer. Once frozen, transfer the rice into a freezer bag. It will keep in the freezer for 3 months. To reheat, warm in the microwave until heated through or heat in an oiled skillet over medium heat until heated through.
