I love a good “Everything” bagel with cream cheese and lox, but it can be pretty expensive and sometimes seem too fussy. Mixing those flavors into a spread gives the flavor I’m craving without breaking the bank.
Everything Seasoning
I was really excited the first time I saw “Everything” seasoning available at Trader Joe’s. I immediately bought two bottles and set out to use it on EVERYTHING! Then, it occurred to me that I could be making my own “Everything” seasoning. So, what is in “Everything” seasoning?
- White Sesame Seeds
- Black Sesame Seeds
- Poppy Seeds
- Dried Onion
- Dried Garlic
- Course Sea Salt
Really, the proportions of each can be based on your own preference, and you can even leave out something if you don’t have it on hand. Just mix all of the ingredients together and store in a sealed container in your spice cabinet. It’ll last for at least two months. Check out my recipe for Everything Seasoning here.

Everything Bagel and Lox Spread
This spread is so easy to prepare. Simply chop the smoked salmon and mix all the ingredients together. I like to make this the night before I want to serve it to give the flavors time to meld. Let the spread sit for about an hour to make it easier to spread.
This is fantastic on crackers or crostini. If you’re thinking about serving it for brunch (which I HIGHLY recommend), stop by your local bagel shop and ask them to “bread-slice” your bagels. This cuts them vertically into several thin slices rather than one cut across the bagel. It is the best way to feed a crowd.
